Cities are increasingly facing food insecurity while also having to manage significant food surpluses.
As part of its food policy, the city of Milan has developed a network of local hubs that combine the recovery and redistribution of food surpluses with support services and social inclusion initiatives for vulnerable individuals. This event will present the development of Milan’s Food Aid Hub project, which comprises eight local hubs providing food assistance through the recovery and redistribution of food surpluses, alongside support services for vulnerable individuals and families.
The event will explore the operations of the project and the collaborative networks on which it is based, involving public administration, third-sector organisations, businesses, universities and local communities. Specifically, the meeting aims to facilitate dialogue among the various stakeholders, highlight the developed practices, and strengthen the involvement of businesses, citizens, and other organisations within the network.
The event will also feature exhibition spaces dedicated to the participating organisations to showcase the hubs’ activities and promote opportunities for active participation, including volunteering, donations and other forms of collaboration, for citizens and stakeholders.
