Energy Efficiency Observatory

About the project

Energy Efficiency Report (EER) is a periodic report analyzing the hot topics of energy efficiency in Italy and offering a point of reference for the sizing of the market. It is worth mentioning, indeed, that there are no official sources of data about energy efficiency investments in Italy. Like all the other research activity of Energy & Strategy the EER is based on the contribution of multiple partners, key players in the industry, that fund, discuss and unveil the results of our research activity in the field.

Principal Investigators:  Vittorio Chiesa, Davide Chiaroni, Federico Frattini

Researcher team:  Vittorio Chiesa, Davide Chiaroni, Federico Frattini, Marco Guiducci, Giulia Besozzi, Martino Bonalumi, Andrea Di Lieto

KEY RESEARCH QUESTIONS

Energy Efficiency Report (EER) is a periodic report analyzing the hot topics of energy efficiency in Italy and offering a point of reference for the sizing of the market. It is worth mentioning, indeed, that there are no official sources of data about energy efficiency investments in Italy. Like all the other research activity of Energy & Strategy the EER is based on the contribution of multiple partners, key players in the industry, that fund, discuss and unveil the results of our research activity in the field.

Among the other topics covered along its history EER strongly contributed to the policy debate about the new guidelines for Energy Efficiency Certificates (EECs), the incentive scheme for energy efficiency investments of individuals, companies and public entities (€ 6,1 billion in 2016), subject to a profound revision in 2017. EER provided to the debate for the first time a comprehensive cost-benefit-analysis of the overall impact of EECs since their introduction in 2006. The analysis bases on data on about 41 million EECs and a survey of more than 300 key players and stakeholders.

The structure of the Energy Efficiency Observatory, similarly to the other observatories run by Energy & Strategy is based on 4 pillars: (1) the analysis of the state-of-the art of the technologies representing the offer in the field; (2) the analysis of the current size and forecasts of the market; (3) the analysis of the normative and regulatory framework applied in the field; (4) the analysis of business models and development strategies of the key players in the field.
