FINANCIAL TIMES: MIP POLITECNICO DI MILANO’S INTERNATIONAL FLEX MBA AMONG THE BEST 10 ONLINE MASTERS GLOBALLY

Flex MBA the only Italian programme in the ranking: up one place on last year, now 8th in the world and in Europe’s top 5

MIP Politecnico di Milano reconfirms its place among the best business schools in the world for online MBAs. MIP is the Graduate School of Business belonging to the School of Management at Politecnico di Milano. According to the Financial Times Online MBA Ranking 2021, published today, MIP’s International Flex MBA is 8th in world for distance learning Masters in Business Administration, one place better than last year. In the ranking for European business schools, MIP is in 5th place and is still the only Italian school in the ranking compiled every year by the British newspaper.

Our higher education offer holds its place among the most competitive in the world”, said Vittorio Chiesa, President of MIP.Every manager, business person and professional knows that is it vitally important to continue developing their capabilities and expertise, and strengthen leadership skills that are essential to guide companies, from SMEs to large multinationals, in a dynamic and rapidly changing world. MIP is now an international reference point for its role in supporting leaders in this challenge”.

MIP’s International Flex MBA was launched in 2016, and is taught via an innovative platform developed in partnership with Microsoft. It is the English version of our Flex MBA, the first MBA in Italy to have embraced smart learning when it debuted in 2014 within MIP’s programme portfolio. In eight years, over 550 students have taken one of these two MBAs, with enrolments up by 35% in 2020 alone.

Looking at the FT ranking and the parameters used, the International Flex MBA scored well in all “career progress” indices (progression in the alumni’s level of seniority and the size of company they now work for versus three years ago on graduation), in gender balance on the School’s Board and for the number of international students and faculty.

We are very proud to have received this acknowledgement from the Financial Times, as the only business school in Italy included in the ranking”, added Federico Frattini, MIP Dean. This improvement in our global position confirms the quality of our distance learning offer. The health emergency inevitably also had an impact on the way we ‘do’ higher education, and accelerated a process of innovation that we were already expecting as the natural progression in executive education. The rise in number of people studying for one of these MBAs in such an unusual year as 2020 indicates that our decision to introduce smart learning as the first in Italy and one of the earliest in Europe was a key move that allowed us to intercept the growing demand for flexibility, something that our business community has been expressing for some time”.

In the Financial Times’ top ten ranking, MIP is ahead of the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland (USA) and the Australian Graduate School of Management at UNSW Business School in Sydney. Warwick Business School (UK) retain the lead, followed by IE Business School (Spain) and Imperial College Business School (UK), a new entrant to the ranking.

MIP’s International Flex MBA is inserted within an educational portfolio of excellence, joining about 40 Masters, including 7 MBAs and Executive MBAs, 200 open executive programmes and a series of training programmes customised for companies.

MIP Politecnico di Milano, part of the School of Management, enters the Economist’s rankings dedicated to the best full-time MBAs in the world for the first time.

MIP Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Business is delighted to announce that, for the first time in its history, it has joined The Economist’s 2021 ranking of  full-time MBA programmes, the classification that recognises the best full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) programmes in the world. Politecnico di Milano’s School of Management is, in fact, among the ninety schools selected and, specifically, ranks 86th.

At a European level, the school is the only one in the ranking among technical universities with a Business School or Management Department, and the fourth among generalist universities with technical expertise and a Business School or Management Department. More broadly, thirty-five European schools feature in the ranking.

Among the parameters considered by the classification, the Politecnico di Milano’s School of Management stands out in terms of the percentage of students who found work within three months of the end of their course, the average increase in their salary and the representation of international students and  alumni.

In the words of Vittorio Chiesa and Federico Frattini, President and Dean of MIP Politecnico di Milano, respectively: “We are honoured to join this ranking for the first time in our history. It is an achievement which we would like to share with all the students who have chosen our school and with all those who, we hope, will want to do so during the year that has just started.”

The Financial Times European Business Schools Ranking 2020: Politecnico di Milano’s School of Management among the top three European business schools attached to “technical” universities, and is 41st outright.

MIP Politecnico di Milano, part of the School of Management, makes further gains on 2019, and this year applications to its MBAs jumped up by 13% in Italy.

MIP Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Business is delighted to announce that it joins Europe’s best business schools in The Financial Times European Business Schools Ranking 2020.

The School is placed third among European schools belonging to a technical university and, more generally, is 41st out of the 90 schools listed, four places higher than in 2019, where it was 45th out of 95.

Politecnico di Milano’s Business School gains three places in the ranking for MBAs, and is now in 38th place. The greatest improvement was for “Salary increase”, a criterion measuring the rise in earnings three years after graduating. Among the many excellent programmes offered by the School, the standout was Executive Education 2020, with its Open and Customised programmes, both up from 41st to 39th place. Another success is the rise in percentage of “Female faculty” (from 39 to 41%) and “Faculty with doctorate” (from 81 to 83%).

Looking at the ranking of technical universities with a Business School and/or a Department of Management, the School of Management confirms its third place in the classification, behind Imperial College (UK) and Aalto University (Finland). If we also consider generalist universities with technical expertise and a business school, the School of Management is placed 11th.

The School’s place in the ranking is joined by equally important results in terms of student interest. In the particularly complex situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, MIP received 13% more applications from candidates living in Italy, with a substantial increase in the overall number of participants taking MBAs and Specialising Master programmes.

In the words of Vittorio Chiesa and Federico Frattini, President and Dean of MIP Politecnico di Milano, respectively: “Our Business School was able to perform superbly even amid all the difficulties of the year now coming to an end. We are pleased to share our pleasure in the recognition awarded to us by the Financial Times with our ever-increasing number of current and future students, and with everyone who has worked with us day in and day out to help us achieve these results”.

QS MBA Career Specialization Rankings 2021: work, research and placement make the School of Management of Politecnico di Milano one of the best in the world

QS ranking recognises MIP’s MBAs in six areas, with special emphasis on the excellent score achieved in Operations Management, followed by Entrepreneurship and Marketing. Such a recognition bears out the labour market’s appreciation for both the training endeavours of the school and its alumni.

MIP’s MBAs rank among the best in the world, including in terms of specialisations in the different working fields. This is revealed by the QS MBA by Career Specialization Rankings 2021 drawn up by Quacquarelli Symonds, a company that engages in analysing academic curricula available worldwide. According to this ranking, built on the results achieved by the different schools and alumni in a variety of business areas, the School of Management of Milan Polytechnic ranks among the top 100 in as many as six categories, standing out in particular in Operations Management, Entrepreneurship and Marketing.

More specifically, the best result was scored in Operations Management, where the School ranked 5th, while it reached the 35th position in Entrepreneurship and the 43rd in Marketing. Acting as key enablers of this remarkable achievement is above all the very high score awarded to research, together with reputation among employers and career placement.

These results are even more relevant if benchmarked against the method used to draw up the ranking, as over 37 thousand employers were considered and millions of academic publications and statistics on alumni employment were reviewed. First and foremost, this goes to show that the labour market recognises the prowess of the people trained at the School of Management, and that these very people then pursue top-level careers, either as independent professionals or within leading organisations.

The variety of the considered areas is also striking, confirming the school’s commitment to pursuing a path where management, economics and technology meet and blend together to form an educational whole.

In addition to the three areas mentioned above, the School of Business also ranks among the top 100 in the areas of Consulting, Information Management and Technology.

This is the third confirmation in a few days of the quality of the School educational offer. MIP Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Business has been included for the second time in its history in the prestigious international Financial Times Executive MBA 2020 ranking, while MIP courses have been celebrated in the QS Business Masters Rankings 2021. A double recognition further enhanced by the result achieved in the QS MBA by Career Specialization Rankings 2021.

MIP’s Executive MBA is in 35th place for its focus and care for issues of sustainability and CSR, in 71st place for international diversity and 80th according to the parameter that examines research carried out at the School of Management. It also scores highly for the quota of women in the faculty (Female faulty, 41%), and on the School of Management’s Advisory Board (Women on board, 50%).

Compared to the European ranking for 2019, other improved parameters are average salary three years after graduating, up by 9% on last year, and increase in salary after graduation, up from 43% in 2019 to 49% in 2020.

Overall, the School of Management is one of only thee technical universities with a Business School or a Department of Management in the classification, behind Imperial College (UK) and Aalto University (Finland).

Vittorio Chiesa and Federico Frattini, President and Dean of MIP Politecnico di Milano, respectively: “It gives us tremendous pleasure to see our Executive MBA rewarded by such an authoritative ranking as that compiled by the Financial Times. In 2016, AMBA (the Association of MBAs) listed our Flex MBA among the most innovative MBAs in the world and, in 2017, it was the first such course in Italy to receive the EFMD EOOCS certification for online programmes of excellence. Last year, the programme was placed in 7th place in the QS Distance/Online MBA Rankings 2019.

In greater detail, the International Flex MBA was evaluated highly in the FT Online MBA 2020 Ranking for the superb way in which course colleagues, School faculty and staff are all able to interact online through the platform designed specially for this type of Master. Frattini and Chiesa conclude by saying: “These are superb results, achieved through our efforts to continuously improve the programme and extend the international dimension of the curriculum. Today, the excellent level of MIP Graduate School of Business is there for all to see in its development of digital solutions supporting the education process and the value of our online offer. Other factors include the School’s excellent price-quality ratio, its highly international faculty and the study and placement opportunities offered outside Italy.

In a joint statement, Alessandro Perego and Andrea Sianesi, the Department’s Director and the President and Dean of MIP, respectively, explain: “The FT’s recognition is, as always, extremely important for all our Master students, alumni and graduates. For years, we have concentrated on an international approach to our courses and on competencies linked to digital transformation. The Financial Times’ conclusions show that we are on the right path, as it places us among the best management schools in the world with a strong emphasis on technology and engineering”.
