KEY RESEARCH QUESTIONS
Circular Economy is a new paradigm for economic systems which aims to maximize the total value created, preserving resources. Carrefour Italy embraced the concept of Circular Economy for its future.
The first steps towards this new vision are related to: (1) Resources management, for a more rational and efficient use of energy (electricity and heat) and other resources (e.g. water) and the local generation of energy, eventually resulting in a NZEB goal for stores; (2) Waste management, for a more efficient reduction, treatment and recovery of generated waste in stores, eventually closing the loop through a waste-to-energy valorization.
Politecnico di Milano is acting as main advisor for ensuring the above transition, designing the methodology for data collection, analysis and representation, providing benchmark analysis with major peers, and supporting Carrefour in defining a roadmap of actions for achieving the goal of the transition towards Circular Economy.
OUTPUTS & IMPACTS
Data about all Italian stores of Carrefour Italia have been analyzed from an energy and waste management perspectives. The Report provided in a private form to Carrefour Italia showed the potential benefits of the adoption of Circular Economy.
