Digital transformation supporting B2B relationships

About the project

Research aims to understand how digital innovation is changing relationships across the supply chain, by assessing its impact on the companies’ performances. The main B2b applications have been analysed considering the supported processes (Procurement, Electronic Invoicing, Supply Chain Management, etc.) and adopted technologies (Extranet, EDI on the Internet etc.). Research activities are conducted within the B2b eCommerce Observatory of the School of Management of Politecnico di Milano

KEY RESEARCH QUESTIONS

Research aims to understand how digital innovation is changing relationships across the supply chain, by assessing its impact on the companies’ performances. The main B2b applications have been analysed considering the supported processes (Procurement, Electronic Invoicing, Supply Chain Planning, etc.) and adopted technologies (Extranet, EDI on the Internet etc.). Research activities are conducted within the B2b eCommerce Observatory of the School of Management of Politecnico di Milano.

More in detail, the main objectives of the current research are:

  • Quantify the value of the Italian B2B eCommerce and compare it with the ones of the international scenario
  • Measure how widely companies use the B2B eCommerce tools (EDI, Extranet/Hub B2B, etc.) supporting different supply chain processes (Procurement, Electronic invoices, Supply Chain planning, New Product Development, etc.)
  • Analyse the major trends in digital innovation within the B2B landscape
  • Quantify the benefits stemming from the adoption of eSupply Chain solutions
  • Identify and describe the B2B digital invoicing models available
  • Monitor the changes in the legislation in the field of the electronic invoice
  • Identify and analyse the opportunities deriving from projects of digitalisation

Research is conducted in an empirical way integrating different methodologies, such as surveys to measure the diffusion of digital innovation among the Italian companies and case studies in order to analyse in depth the barriers and the benefits related to the B2b solutions.
