KEY RESEARCH QUESTIONS
Renewable Energy Report (RER), Electricity Market Report (EMR) and Storage Energy Report (SER) are periodic reports analyzing the evolution of the energy markets in Italy. The analysis of renewables in Italy is the first topic covered by Energy & Strategy since its inception. The research of Energy & Strategy in this field has allowed it to play an active role in energy and sustainability policy formulation in Italy. It has been regularly consulted by the Italian Ministry of the Environment and the Italian Ministry for Economic Development for the formulation of new policies and regulations (such as the National Energy Strategy and the Incentive Schemes for Renewable Energy).
The analysis of the dynamics of the electricity market as a consequence of the emergence of a new distributed electricity production mix allowed Energy & Strategy to unravel the process of “opening up” of the market, from MSD (Mercato dei Servizi di Dispacciamento) to the new forms of virtual aggregators offering energy and capacity services.
The development of these new business models and actors of the electricity business ecosystem has been made possible by the improvements of energy storage technologies, whose further development deserves a constant and deep investigation.
The structure of these observatories, common to all the research activities run by Energy & Strategy is based on 4 pillars: (1) the analysis of the state-of-the art of the technologies representing the offer in the field; (2) the analysis of the current size and forecasts of the market; (3) the analysis of the normative and regulatory framework applied in the field; (4) the analysis of business models and development strategies of the key players in the field.
