Dean of POLIMI Graduate School of Management. Started as Assistant Professor, he is now Full Professor of Strategic Management and Innovation, and Member of the management committee of Polimi GSOM. Frattini’s main contribution to management research is in the field of Open Innovation, and in particular technology leverage strategies. At Politecnico di Milano he also co-founded Energy & Strategy, a research team that analyzes the business models in the field of renewable energy, energy efficiency, smart grid, digital energy and others. He has been Deputy Director of Energy & Strategy since 2007.

His area of research is innovation and strategic management, with a particular focus on family businesses and energy innovation. On these topics, he has written more than 200 books and papers published in conference proceedings and leading international journals such as MIT Sloan Management Review, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Academy of Management Perspectives, California Management Review, Journal of Product Innovation Management, and many others. He is Associate Editor of CERN IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation and Member of the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Innovation Management. He is also engaged as a reviewer for several international scientific journals, such as Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Venturing, Research Policy, Journal of Product Innovation Management and many others. His research activity has contributed to the rise of various publications on practitioners-oriented journals including Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, California Management Review, European Business Review, Harvard Business Manager and Il Sole 24 Ore. His passion in research is confirmed by the appointment as Honorary Researcher at the University of Lancaster Management School and by the nomination among the Top 50 Researchers of Technology and Innovation Management worldwide by the International Association for Management of Technology (IAMOT).
