Abstract:

Industry 4.0 (I4.0) encompasses a variety of technologies that are deemed to revolutionise Operational excellence methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing. This seminar will share some of the preliminary results from few industry projects investigating integration of Lean with Industry 4.0 technologies. The findings indicate that low integration levels can already result in considerable operational performance improvements. Results show how there is a specific pattern for succeeding in implementing the integrated lean and Industry 4.0 model. Lean is identified as precursor to achieve effective outcome from Industry 4.0 application. Preliminary findings suggest that by following such a pattern, Lean and Industry 4.0 model can jointly enhance the performance in terms of lead time reduction and productivity growth. A brief discussion on range of potential theories that could be used to study Lean and industry 4.0 integration depending upon the focus is at micro, meso, or macro levels.
