Abstract:
Nowadays, the integration of the physical and financial supply chain has become a critical topic for both academia and practice. This is reflected in the practicality of day-to-day business: for example, large logistics service providers are now offering financial services (such as inventory financing), and most companies are engaging in practices and schemes that aim at improving the management of their financial flows. This is also reflected in the academic world, as highlighted by the growing publication stream on Supply Chain Finance (SCF), to be intended as the integration of the physical and financial supply chains. However, we should be wary of the distance between these two worlds and, as academics, do our best to serve practitioner with valuable and useful insights. This opens up significant questions: what direction is research on these topics taking? What would be the ideal research agenda? Are current services and direction of practitioners in line with expectations? What is the role of innovative technologies? The seminar will suggest an interpretative framework and a research agenda to best tackle these issues.
