ABOUT LM 2025

The LM25 Conference brings together more than 100 logistics management researchers from 17th to 19th of September 2025 in Milan, Italy.

The objectives are to provide an interactive, personal platform for discussing and exploring characteristics and implications of making logistics operations sustainable, resilient and human-centric in line with technology and general logistics management research development.

Furthermore, the conference facilitates the international exchange of logistics and operations management researchers for collaboration, especially between Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.

This helps to support PhD and early career researchers to develop communications, networking and innovation capabilities in an international academic research and expert setting.

The LM2025 Conference offers a Best Paper award that will be granted to the author(s) of high-quality research who will present their contribution during the Conference. The winner(s) will be determined by the Conference Committee and the Local Organizing Committee. The Award ceremony will take place during the Gala Dinner.

LM25 KEYNOTE STEFFEN OBERMANN

Logistics and the Human Factor – Logistics 5.0 in Business Practice

Friday September 19, 2025 – Keynote Talk at 15.30 hours

“How does the future look? Honestly – no idea. But I do know how I’d like it to be: mindful in how we treat people and sustainable in how we treat the planet.” That’s the mindset Steffen Obermann brings to work each day. At the ZUFALL logistics group – a family-owned company with 2,300 people – he leads the internal innovation lab. His role: to build bridges between today’s logistics reality and tomorrow’s start-up world. Between tradition and transformation. His focus: strengthening the organization’s ability to change and to innovate. Along the way, the logistics start-up LogiMate and a city logistics concept were born – built on the belief that planet, people, and profit can align. But Steffen’s role at LogiMate is far from the typical managing director job: he actively supports the young all-women founding team, who will eventually assume leadership. The zufall.lab is Steffen’s fifth company – in his fifth industry. Along the way, he is on a mission to shape a different kind of working world – one where people focus on their strengths and where impact matters more than status.

PUBLICATIONS

There are already three full paper submission options connected to the LM25 conference in the Journal of Business Logistics (I50 and PI, closed), Journal of Business Economics (Hydrogen Supply Chains, closed) and Computers and Industrial Engineering. All manuscripts successfully under review within these three pre conference publication streams will be automatically part of the conference program and authors therein will receive separate notifications about their conference presentation contribution (special workshop session with LM25).

Complementary to these, the conference event welcomes conference contributions in the conference paper and conference abstract schemes. These will not be published online in order to allow for post conference publication efforts – authors will be invited to valuable post conference publication options with academic journals or for example the Springer Lecture Notes in Logistics (LNL, LINK), all of them rated with the VHB PMR 2024 (Logistics) context for high-quality publication outlets. The planned schedule is for accepted and revised conference contributions to be submitted as full (extended) papers before the end of November 2025 towards a successful publication during 2026. All authors will be notified about the further publication process with feedback and acceptance to the conference as well as during the event.

Submitting experts will receive automated acknowledgements to inform about the submission status and further notifications via e-mail. Reviews and comments as well as acceptance to the conference for all submissions will be communicated by June 30th, 2025. For each accepted paper, at least one author is required to register for the conference and present the work in person in Milan.
