PHD: Industrial Engineering, Politecnico di Milano.

His primary research fields are related to the design and management of socio-technical systems, including companies and supply chains; more specifically, Supply (Chain) Risk Management and Supply Chain Design, Green Industrial Efficiency and Industrial Optimization, Occupational Safety Management (dealing with Work Organization) and Applied Ergonomics (mainly focusing on workplaces design). A significant angle of his research and consultancy is the one of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and their development in the Supply Chain/Network/System perspective – very often inbound tiers of their Supply Chains, so that the impact of the overall research is manifold, ranging from the individual citizen/worker to the company/system, up to the community, so as to enable overall better decision making and policymaking.
