THE MASTERS FOR THE SUSTAINABLE LEADERS OF TOMORROW

As members of the School of Management of Politecnico di Milano, we are aware that profound interlinkages exist between business enterprisessociety and the environment. A lasting improvement in the economic performances of firms and countries can be achieved only if people and their dignity are protected, social welfare is enhanced, natural resources are managed efficiently and the global environment is defended, business ethics is promoted. At the same time, we know that corporations may be a positive agent of change. Firms, alone or in partnerships with other private or public players, are at the origin of many of the technological, organizational, institutional innovations that maximize economic growth, social cohesion and environment conservation in a balanced way, and create a truly sustainable value. It is for this reason that concepts such as responsible businesssocial innovationsustainable business models, industrial sustainabilityresources efficiency and circularity, and the associated analytical and operational instruments, have an increasing weight in the School’s programs, and in our research and knowledge transfer activity. As a School that operates at the intersection between engineering, management and economics, we dive into solutions for sustainability at all levels of management. In addition to the implications for policy and strategy making, we investigate and teach how sustainability change corporate processes, supply chains, operations and technologies across different industries. This led MIP to create 4 new International Masters in Sustainability.

*In order to fully participate in classes and company visits, presence on campus is strongly suggested, especially since January 2023. In case of visa delays, travel barriers or other specific issues, it will be possible to continue attending online.

WHY CHOOSE US

  • 1 year: 9 months in class + 3-month project
  • 100% in English
  • In partnership with the main players in the Sustainability field
  • 5 reasons why:
    • In 2019 the business roundtable asserted that shareholder supremacy and maximizing shareholder value has been a mistake, because we need a shift from shareholder capitalism  to public interest capitalism;
    • Sustainability is the biggest challenge of our times: The global economy was projected to grow at 3.5 percent in 2019 and 3.6 percent in 2020;
    • The diffusion of environmentally-friendly technologies and organisational practices may trigger labour market disruptions such as faster obsolescence of worker know-how and a rapid acceleration of the demand for existing and new competencies that, if in short supply, would lead to skill gaps;
    • According to Forbes, today’s young people are as concerned with making a positive impact on the world as they are with making money. A whopping 94% want to use their skills to benefit a cause;
    • Strongly experiential approach, designed in partnership with a huge group of companies.
  • Including soft skills for professional development

MIP Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Business is delighted to announce that it has achieved B Corp Certification. This prestigious recognition is awarded to companies that emerge for their commitment to sustainable development and building a more inclusive society. Focus on entrepreneurship & innovation

The Part-time Executive MBA has been totally redesigned to train managers to be agents of innovation within their companies, where the topic of entrepreneurship, understood as being the ability to bring the creative mindset typical of start-ups into the corporate sphere, is becoming a priority.

Two pillars have in fact been dedicated to innovation and transformation, with the introduction of new courses in Design Thinking, Omni-Channel Marketing and Lean Startup. In the 4th Pillar, each student will be able to customise their own EMBA route, choosing between 2 Learning Paths with either an entrepreneurial or a managerial focus.

BENEFITS FOR THE COMPANY

Expand the international business network

IMM Global EMBA students have many opportunities to form ties with their classmates – a talent pool of professionals from around the world and from an array of backgrounds -, the alumni network and faculty of the different schools, and the international companies that they will meet during the program. They will also get insights from different cultures, companies, entrepreneurs and business contexts.  Thanks to the International Master in Management, candidates can reach out to this network and have the chance to gain contacts in areas that may before have been unexplored or inaccessible in order to solve future business challenges.

Increase the company knowledge and gain competitive leadership skills

IMM is ideal for companies that intend to develop their high potential executive employees and managers, as they can benefit from bringing their management skills up to date on the latest trends in management practice and in line with their company’s culture, values and strategy.
IMM students start to use skills and knowledge while in program and the additional advantage of working while studying is that students can transfer the skills they learn on the course back to the workplace instantaneously. Students can engage in new ways to drive their teams to work coherently and effectively together and have a greater impact in the company business resulting in higher revenue, lower costs, increased efficiencies, better decision making and much more.  They can then discuss the results of their endeavours to classmates and critically discuss their leadership progress with their lecturers and cohort.

Work on Employee Retention

Invest in the training of the employees, enhance the resources, improve the company business with top-notch talents and develop the employee retention.

Maximize the Return on Investment and Save cost

The expertise Global EMBA students gain is immediately applicable in their companies and organizations. Participants become smart decision makers, effective problem solvers, and well-prepared leaders able to take on increasing responsibilities. Over 50% of IMM alumni have saved their companies $12 million annually (Purdue survey). Companies can make considerable savings in the costs they would incur in obtaining external expertise either from consultants or by employing suitably qualified managers through the job market.

Develop a virtuous circle of education

Companies can benefit of further fees reduction of additional MIP Politecnico di Milano managerial courses (such as courses included in the MIP Management Academy) to implement a widespread training program for their employees, thus developing a virtuous circle of education.

WHY CHOOSE US

Here are the top Reasons why the Global Executive Master in Operations and Supply Chain Management at MIP Politecnico di Milano will be a game-changer for you.

INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE

The master offers participants the opportunity to dive into a unique and international learning experience and gives the possibility to learn from a multinational faculty coming from two international partner schools. The class, which is composed of candidates coming from all over the world, offers students a multicultural environment in which they will enhance their intercultural competences.

On top of that, candidates will participate in the International Week in China that starts from the standpoint that successful business relationships have proven to be challenging both for many multinational companies and for small and medium‐sized Western enterprises. Besides, a good understanding of the Chinese economy and how to navigate the Asian business environment is key to success for any company. Through classes, presentations and company visits, participants will deepen their understanding of the Chinese culture and the local business environment, as well as their knowledge of operations and supply chain management in emerging Asian economies.

METHODOLOGY

The course focuses on delivering education in a highly active and 'hands-on' manner, with an emphasis on a 'learning by doing' approach. The methodology reflects companies’ demand for professionals with skills such as the capacity to reflect, the ability to act in the face of change, the versatility to work in teams and the adaptability to face the challenges of a global environment.

As the programme is part time, students are able to employ the ideas and practices learnt in class, directly into their current working professions. This allows for simultaneous growth and development, and the ability to effectively implement the didactical and cognitive skills and functions relevant to their position.

Furthermore, students will be able to train their skills through 9 company-led challenges, case studies, simulation games (The Connections), analysis, discussion groups and team-working activities by constantly working on real-life business cases and making strategic decisions. Morevoere, at the end of the program, students will have the chance to apply the concepts learnt during the Gemos journey to real contexts with the final Project Work.

FLEXIBILITY

The program has been reshaped to be more flexible and fully compatible with your own personal and professional life.

Taking advantage of the knowledge developed since 2014 with our online programs, recognised in the top 10 worldwide according to QS Online MBA Rankings; GEMOS students have access to our innovative digital learning platform, developed by MIP on MICROSOFT technology.

CONCENTRATION ON LEADERSHIP SKILLS

Being effective in today’s business world requires managers and leaders to consistently work on developing their personal and professional skills. In the context of a rapidly changing and demanding business environment, communication skills, the ability to work effectively in teams, leadership qualities, decision-making skills and the capacity to resolve conflicts in a constructive way, are among the most important competencies.

The concentration on leadership skills is aimed at transforming operations and supply chain personnel into leaders. Within the Concentration, those and other so‐called soft skills will be assessed, trained, and developed.

NETWORKING WITH COMPANIES

GEMOS is designed and delivered in partnership with companies: more than 20 companies are directly involved, through sessions, visits and opportunities. This can be an excellent way for both students and professionals to network, and provide them with a unique opportunity to gain insights into how various companies operate in different markets.

In addition, students have the chance to interact with the Corporate Advisory Board (CAB), the international consultancy committee of the Global Executive Master in Operations and Supply Chain Management, composed of independent business professionals from global companies.

BENEFITS FOR YOU AND YOUR COMPANY

Students of the GEMOS program will not only enhance their own skill-set but they will also be able to add value to their company while studying. Through the program they remain abreast of the latest developments in the field of operations and supply chain management and candidates will have an immediate return on investment. The “learning by doing” methodology allows employees to apply immediately their newly-acquired knowledge and skills in their workplace.

The company-based final Project work can be undertaken in the student’s company and the goal of the project is to develop an action plan in operations and supply chain management to improve the competitive position of the company.

  • DIGITAL EXPERIENCE: live sessions, lessons are held on Tuesday and Thursday from 7.00pm to 9.30pm CET, challenges, simulation games, video clip, Q&A. Lessons are delivered through our innovative digital learning platform, developed by MIP on MICROSOFT technology.

PROGRAM

The kick off of the master is in September 2022.

  • Nine online, live, company‐led monthly challenges
  • Two full‐time international weeks (one in Europe and one in China), from Sunday evening to Saturday afternoon
  • Two simulation games (The Connections) on circular Supply Chains and Supply Chain Finance respectively
  • One concentration on leadership skills, to combine hard and soft skills
  • Your final company‐based project work

THE CHALLENGES

The challenges represent some of the most dreadful pain points of which many companies are well aware, yet which they have not yet found a way of assuaging. The program will address certain key issues within operations and supply chain management:

  • Supply chain strategy
  • Global supply chain management
  • Factory planning via big data
  • Smart manufacturing
  • Digital procurement
  • Managing distribution networks
  • Supply chain sustainability
  • Supply chain innovation
  • Supply chain risk management
INTERNATIONAL WEEK IN EUROPE

The first international week takes place in Europe – in Milan (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain) – at the beginning of the program, and it directly involves MIP and EADA, also with the purpose of team‐building. This week is designed to help participants develop an in‐depth understanding of how European business operates in domestic and global markets, with an emphasis on operations and supply chain management. The week ends with a full‐day campus experience totally devoted to introducing the concentration on leadership skills.

What can you expect? Lectures, company visits, in-company classes, visits to the Politecnico di Milano labs, networking activities, and a visit to Barcelona’s ports, exploiting both hard and soft skills in a very inspiring way.

INTERNATIONAL WEEK IN CHINA

The International Week in China consists of full immersions at Beijing Jiaotong University and at Xi’an Jiaotong University. Beijing Jiaotong University was founded by the Qing Government in 1909, growing out of the former Beijing Railway Management Institute; it is still one of the most important universities in telecommunications and railway management in China. Besides, it is the first higher educational institute specialised in educating managerial talents in China. Xi'an Jiaotong University is grounded in its strengths in engineering, technology, management, and life sciences. It houses five key national laboratories, four special national laboratories, and two national engineering research centres, and it is the hub of the University Alliance of the Silk Road.

CONCENTRATION ON LEADERSHIP SKILLS

Leaders help themselves and others to do the right thing. They set direction, build an inspiring vision, and create something new. Leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal. In business, leadership is linked to performance, and any definition of leadership must take that into account. While there are some people who seem to be naturally endowed with more leadership abilities than others, anyone can learn to become a leader by improving some specific skills. The concentration on Leadership Skills is aimed at transforming operations and supply chain personnel into leaders.

The methodology focuses on learning by doing, reflection and conceptualisation. To optimise the learning process and take full advantage of the online format, different teaching methodologies will be used during this course.

FINAL BUSINESS PROJECT WORK

The final Business Project is a short end of course project performed at an associated company. The goal of the Project is to develop an action plan in operations and supply chain management to improve the competitive position of a chosen company.

The specific objectives of the Project are:

  • To apply the knowledge acquired throughout the program to a specific business situation
  • To identify the gaps between corporate or business strategy and operations/supply chain strategy (implementation)
  • To develop a feasible, complete, coherent and convincing plan of action
  • To develop research and presentation skills

Students can undertake the project work at a place of their choice, which can be the company where they work or a different one. The project will be performed individually under the guidance of a university tutor.

The MIP and EADA faculty is made up of professors with extremely diverse professional and educational backgrounds, further complemented by a dedicated teaching staff.

Faculty members of MIP, many of whom are successful professionals in their own right, draw on their own consulting work and the immense research facilities of the Politecnico di Milano to provide, up-to-date, diverse and relevant material for lectures and business cases, and routinely strive to be readily accessible to students, and to make classroom time a rewarding and exciting experience.

Additionally, the faculty is composed of a large number of international members, which is further representative of the school’s highly globalised environment. In particular, EADA professors have a strong reputation for practical teaching quality and for developing of management skills and personal growth.

WHY CHOOSE US

Alumni back to School

Possibility to stay connected to the School until 2 years after the end of the master, attending a maximum of 2 elective courses on new topics that may emerge.

Empower your career

MIP’s Executive MBA provides participants with a holistic view of the organisation and its processes with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship and is oriented towards reinforcing also the soft skills and developing a network of relationships so as to accelerate the professional growth of managers and entrepreneurs.

In the new edition of the course, the Leadership Development Path has been redesigned, with Leadership - a Point of View activities and a choice of new Elective courses as well as the Career Development Programme, with the introduction of a series of workshops on tools for career development, from personal branding to business presentation skills.

In order to facilitate the achievement of professional goals or to meet any requalification needs in the current situation, we have extended the Career Development services up to one year after the end of the master, increasing the opportunities of meetings, both one-2 many (such as workshops, workshops and networking events) and one-2-one.

Moreover, during and after the Master, participants will have at their disposal a tool for ongoing professional development, the revolutionary digital mentor developed by MIP with Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence tools: FLEXA.

Enhance your network

MIP is part of the Politecnico di Milano and this is a unique opportunity to build your own personal network of relationships within the University's ecosystem to support your managerial or entrepreneurial career by finding the tools, partnerships and services you need in order to face the professional challenges you will encounter.

Proximity to companies is one of MIP's special features and a characteristic of all EMBA's activities.

Focus on entrepreneurship & innovation

The Evening EMBA has been totally redesigned to train managers to be agents of innovation within their companies, where the topic of entrepreneurship, understood as being the ability to bring the creative mindset typical of start-ups into the corporate sphere, is becoming a priority.

EMBA students will be awarded a new Diploma specialising in Digital Transformation if they choose 4 Electives courses in this area or if they participate to an optional Week in Silicon Valley.

Your Continuous Learning

Today, more than ever, being a true leader means standing out in a labour market where competition and digital transformation require constant updating, without putting the present on hold. For this reason, MIP has decided to offer an exclusive benefit for those enrolled in the Executive MBA 2022 programme: in the two years following graduation, participants will have the opportunity to access more than 370 programmes including courses and pathways from the Academy catalogue free of charge* so they can continue to invest in their future.

*Additional enrolment and administrative costs apply to some programmes. Master's programmes and programmes promoted by the Alumni area are excluded.

Smart learning: work & study

All the Executive MBA formats have been enhanced by our new digital learning platformD-HUB. Thanks to D-HUB, developed with Microsoft technology, participants can access pre-recorded video, actively participate in video sessions with the professor, interact with their peers and work with them on projects and assignments and access additional multimedia contents.

Up to-date multimedia content together with the recording of the lessons, provides a library which is always available for participants’ in-depth study and which guarantees extreme flexibility when taking the Master, regardless of geographical location and work commitments.

To provide professionals with the development of their decision-making capacities, innovation and leadership skills, our EMBA has been implemented with two routes aimed at personal and professional training: the Leadership Experiential Path and the Career Development Programme.

Our latest research shows that, on average, within two years after the end of the EMBA, 80% of graduates obtain a significant career progress, which involves a career growth in the current company in 27% of cases, and a change of career or a change of company in 53% of cases.
What kind of change?
> 71% change of role
> 58% change of function
> 24% beginning of an international mobility
> 5% launch of a start-up

Students have access to international web portals, which allow them to enrich their network by further strengthening their career skills.

EMBA FOR COMPANIES

The EMBA offers an immediate benefit to the companies in which the students work:

Innovation

Students are trained to be agents of innovation within their businesses. The goal is to bring the creative mindset typical of startups into the corporate world as well.
Therefore, programs are designed to accelerate the professional growth of managers and leaders who are able to respond to and tackle the challenges required by the market.

Return on investment

Being a professional in the workplace, students have the opportunity to put into practice immediately what they have learned during lectures. In this way, the company can derive concrete benefits from the advancement of its employee, as he or she becomes a promoter of change and innovation.

Furthermore, the company has the possibility of intervening in the definition of the final project work on which the student will work in the last few months of their EMBA. The project provides for the collaboration and supervision of a MIP Faculty member, a Politecnico di Milano professor or an outside consultant. In this way, the company can benefit from the output of the project, which is in essence strongly practical and consultancy-based; it also activates the know-how of the various Politecnico di Milano departments.

Customised training

The company can give its contribution on the specialization and the Elective Courses that the student may wish to attend. In this way, it can focus the training of his employees on issues of which development is of great value and represents a concrete benefit.

Moreover, the company can direct the training of each employee in accordance with the needs dictated by the participant’s position and his professional growth path.

Leadership Experiential Path

Completely redesigned, the Leadership Experiential Path is aimed at working on soft skills to improve management effectiveness and developing the key capabilities leaders need to successfully undertake their role within the organization.

Access to the Ecosystem of Politecnico

Exposure to a technological ecosystem such as that of the Politecnico di Milano, which ranges from industry 4.0 to the internet of things and self-driving vehicles, can provide added value for managers and entrepreneurs, also in terms of open innovation.
This enables the company to achieve considerable cost savings against that which it would normally spend on acquiring managerial skills externally.

Financial opportunities
  • The course is recognized by a public body - in this specific case by the Politecnico di Milano. Therefore, the fee of the master is VAT exempted pursuant to art. 10 DPR 633/1972.
  • A specific schedule of rates is applied, via which the cost is distributed based on the duration of the Master; we are, however, happy to take into account the needs of the company in this regard.
  • Businesses which participate in Interprofessional Funds, such as Fondimpresa and Fondirigenti, can benefit from opportunities for sponsoring their employees to take an Executive MBA, taking advantage of the funds which have accrued in their Learning Account or by using open tenders.  Here, MIP works with all joint multi-sector funds by placing a team of experts at the disposal of companies to draw attention to the various funding opportunities.
  • Companies will be offered further reductions on multiple enrolments.
  • Companies wishing to sponsor their employees will be offered an extremely flexible and customized payment plan.

Bachelor degrees in just about any discipline are acceptable. The final decision will be made also based on what type of work experience the candidate has accrued.

Will I have to take the TOEFL/IELTS tests?

You can choose which English certificate you would like to take. Generally they have a validity of 2 years. Some candidates may be exempted from providing the English certificate if they are native English speakers or can demonstrate that they have extensive experience working, living or studying in an English-speaking environment.

Do I have to come to the School for my interview?

If you are located near the school or visiting Milan, we would be most happy to receive you on campus for your interview. However, given the international nature of the student body, this is not feasible in most cases. We therefore conduct interviews via Skype using a webcam.

What makes our International Full-Time MBA different is that we aim to coach future managers, entrepreneurs, policymakers and professionals to develop the skills and capabilities additionally required to establish and guide a purposeful organisation.

It has become clear that profit and purpose are no longer two opposing realities. To keep up with the times, rethinking a company’s purpose and playing a concrete role in society is fundamental for any organisation.
Here is our biggest challenge: to help future business leaders and managers to be more confident and conscious about what we call “the purpose revolution”.
That is why at MIP Politecnico di Milano we have launched our New Generation MBA: a unique Master that will prepare future #leaders to succeed, give meaning to their success, and to contribute to build a better future for all. – Federico Frattini, MIP Dean

WHY CHOOSE US

A LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE

As the only school in the world to take this step, we have redesigned our International Full-Time MBA to train a future generation of responsible, skilled and able managers. The ability to cope with purpose is the hot topic for all companies, consulting firms, not-for-profit organisations and individuals. This is the first programme which prepares managers to master this new competence.

What does this mean?

IT IS AN MBA...
  • That covers the fundamental aspects of business administration and management
  • That boosts people’s careers by supporting them with meaningful services and activities, equipping them with a new mindset, enriching their human connections and helping them to find a meaningful professional future
  • That uses an experiential teaching approach based on conversation, knowledge-sharing and leveraging the work experience and different backgrounds of those making up the class, to really shape the new future in a practical and experiential way
...DESIGNED BY MIP
  • Strongly linked with Politecnico di Milano, bringing an analytical and scientific approach
  • Clearly focused on innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Passionate about digitalisation and sustainability
  • Combining management skills with technical topics such as digital transformation, big data and innovation
  • Leveraging an extensive network of nationally and internationally renowned companies
  • Based in Milan, a major financial and business hub, home to several market-leading companies – a good option for international candidates wishing to stay in Italy after graduation
  • An internationally recognised diploma from a leading business school with the top three most important international accreditations (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA)
... AND LED BY PURPOSE, TO BE A NEW-GENERATION MBA
  • A programme that empowers students to investigate their inner perspective, work consciously with purpose and make this the foundation of their approach to managing organisations, from strategy-making to operational deployment
  • A programme designed to develop your capacity to connect with others
  • A programme that defines a proper ‘why’ for each action taken, and uses this higher purpose as a pole star, not only in all the company’s decisions, but also to guide students in their future working environments

A NEW GENERATION MBA

Stimulating, energising, enthralling… the MIP MBA experience is all this and more, a balance between the practical, the experiential and the inspirational. And what is more, it will give you to the tools to unleash the power of purpose.

Due to sweeping changes in the world of business, in 2021 we decided to redesign the International Full-Time MBA programme completely, with the goal of training a new generation of managers fit for this new paradigm. Companies are facing unprecedented change, in terms of innovation, digital transformation and the capacity to overcome the challenges of sustainability. Traditional approaches to leadership are no longer adequate in this new arena. Today’s manager, when questioned about what is needed in order to operate with success and satisfaction, will talk of elements unconnected to the realm of hard skills, but rather those relating to soft skills, such as the ability to manage one’s own emotions as well as those of others – especially in stressful moments – and the capacity to engage people and to understand motivation. In this regard, students will learn to consciously choose purpose to create higher levels of engagement, motivation and alignment, and to generate and sustain greater degrees of meaningfulness and effectiveness. This not only in themselves, but also in their teams and organisations.

1 OFFICIAL PARTNERSHIPS WITH PARTNER COMPANIES

The International MBA program is offered in official collaboration with multinational and Italian companies offering company sponsorships as well as project work and job opportunities to candidates. The program is redesigned by and for companies to prepare the "manager of the future" who is capable of solving the cross-functional, multidimensional and complex problems that the corporate world of today faces.
The MBA Partner Companies will have key involvement in the program right from the start through networking events, mentorship, business seminars and funding opportunities for candidates.

2 MBA PROGRAM OF THE FUTURE
  • Designed to train the ‘manager of the future’ capable of addressing cross functional, multi-dimensional and complex problems
  • Focus on new and emerging technologies in management
  • Unique Training Formula: technological Know-how combined with managerial skills
  • 4 Fundamental Elements: analytical approach to problem solving, innovation & futuristic technology, balance of hard and soft skills, close collaboration with companies
  • Diversified Teaching Methodology: digital learning, interactive lessons, business cases, group activities, business seminars by companies, outdoor training, assessment centre, business games and business plan
  • Focus on specialising in new-age management specialisations: Nine different boot camps to join and learn from
  • During the MBA program students will have the opportunity to experience an intensive one-week study tour in the Silicon Valley, whose purpose is to expose students to its ecosystem and deepen their understanding of entrepreneurship and cutting-edge topics
  • Small class size with an optimal teacher-student ratio and effective peer-to-peer learning
  • Opportunity to learn the Italian language during the program

PROGRAM

INTRODUCTION TO "SHAPING A BETTER FUTURE FOR ALL"

We will open the programme by outlining the school’s purpose, from which flows our teaching ethos. We will encourage you to see the business world from a less traditional standpoint; your long-held beliefs will be challenged, so that you are inspired to begin your studies with an open mind.

CORE COURSES - LAYING THE FOUNDATIONS OF MANAGEMENT

You will learn the interpretative frameworks and tools needed by today’s leader to gain an overview of a company and understand the direction it needs to be taking in future. This practical section covers functions and processes, keeping in mind the connection to a higher purpose that will inspire employees to make their best contribution. In order to be a responsible leader, this will be your goal in future.

The structure of this section rests on four pillars which cover the fundamental management disciplines and give you a holistic view of an organisation and its processes:

  • FIRST PILLAR – Analysing the business and the context
  • SECOND PILLAR – Managing business activities and processes
  • THIRD PILLAR – Planning innovation and transformation
  • FOURTH PILLAR – Realising innovation and transformation
EXPERIENCE GYM

Through a series of experiential activities, you will put theory into practice. Run in collaboration with our MBA partner companies, this mix of company guest lectures, business simulations, company visits and serious games will enable you to see at first hand the practical application of the content and tools you have studied in the Core Courses in General Management.

AREAS OF SPECIALISATION

There are 4 possible areas of specialisation for your diploma:

  • Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Start-up Development:
understand the challenges of digital and entrepreneurial innovation, bringing an entrepreneurial perspective to problem analysis; we address the issue of digital and process innovation from a
start-up point of view and focus on the challenges of family businesses.
  • Digital Transformation & Big Data:
understand how digital transformation is extensively revolutionising the processes of companies and their business models and how the new revolution provided by data could represent the new oil for business success.
  • Luxury & Design Management:
you will get to know the main management logics and the major critical success factors in the luxury and design sectors and analyse all the main value processes with the support of companies, from the generation of an idea to its diffusion.
  • Global & Sustainable Management:
learn about the main future challenges that an enlightened manager and leader will not only have to manage but also bestride for the sustainable expansion of their business.

International exchanges will also be available, as will a study tour in Silicon Valley, plus doing business in China or Mexico.

"WORKING WITH PURPOSE" WORKSHOP

A 4-day workshop, run in small groups, to introduce you to the discipline of Purpose and start building your ability to work with it. Through an experiential, interactive approach you will explore topics such as Defining and Differentiating Purpose; Generating Purpose; Creating Purposeful Relationships; Driving Purposeful Performance; and Strategy with Purpose. This workshop will lay the foundations for you to place what you will learn in the Core Courses in service of consciously chosen purposes. Ultimately, you will learn how to build and guide a purpose-led organisation.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

Ten one-to-one sessions with our personal career advisors will be dedicated to supporting you as you design your own conscious strategy to pursue a meaningful career.

With the support of experts in career development, a series of workshops, career labs and career days will provide you with the tools and skills needed to identify your ultimate career goals and, in an experiential and partnering fashion, to design the journey that fulfils your aspirations.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITY

The one-day outdoor activity is devoted to sustainability and social innovation. It will help you to get to know your group and learn to work together to achieve your common, purposeful goals.

PEER GROUP SESSIONS

Run by experienced coaches together with faculty members and alumni, this series of group activity sessions will engage you in the complexities of purpose, so that you will learn how to work with its multifaceted dimensions and how to synchronise the distinct purposes of different people. Working in small groups, this significant succession of appointments will enable you to engage in a deeper conversation and experience what it means to work on purpose and to use this driving force in your day-to-day activities.

PROJECT WORK

The programme concludes with putting your purpose into action through your choice of project work, which can be executed either individually or as a group. This could be via an internship or consulting project directly connected to your future work, writing a professional thesis or developing a business plan as a team. In this way, all the concepts you have learned during the course can be applied in practice, with guidance from your tutors.

In-company internships can frequently lead to a permanent job after graduation. If you are planning a start-up, you can write your business plan as a group effort. You may prefer to undertake some academic research to further your exploration of your chosen area. In all cases your learning to date should be applied, not only in terms of the knowledge and tools to be implemented but also with regard to the purpose you are aiming to fulfil with your work.

The MIP faculty is made up of professors with extremely diverse professional and educational backgrounds, further complemented by a dedicated teaching staff.

Faculty members, many of whom are succesful professionals in their own right, draw on their own consulting work and the immense research facilities of the Politecnico di Milano to provide, up-to-date, diverse and relevant material for lectures and business cases, and routinely strive to be readily accessible to students, and to make classroom time a rewarding and excting experience.

Additionaly, the faculty is composed of a large number of international members, which is further representative of the highly gloablised environment of the school.

How long is the MBA program and when does it start?

The MBA program begins in September of each year and has a duration of 12 months.

In what language is the MBA held?

The MBA course is held entirely in English, however we recognise the importance of speaking Italian and therefore we provide, as part of the course, Italian language lessons during the Basics in Action phase.
For Italians or students with complete fluency in Italian, we offer Business English courses.

What is the expected personal commitment?

MBA students are expected to give priority to their MBA studies. Generally, they will be involved in classes for around 6 hours a day. Apart from classroom sessions, MIP places great importance on complementary curricula and students should view this as an opportunity for further growth and practical experience.
These activities include field experiences such as in-company projects, business games, entrepreneurial projects and competitions, as well as business seminars with company representatives and alumni talks. Attendance is compulsory for most of these activities.

What are the teaching methods used?

The International MBA is a program which responds to today’s business needs. The unique training formula combines technological know-how with management skills and incorporates 4 fundamental elements:

Analytical approach to problem solving.

Innovation and technology.

Development of interpersonal and soft skills to create well-rounded candidates.

Close collaboration with our wide company network.

The diversified teaching methodologies include: interactive lessons, business cases, group activities, business seminars, outdoor training, assessment centre, business games and business plan.

What is the exam structure like?

Each core subject and concentration finishes with a final exam and an evaluation will also be made of the Project Work based on the feedback of the in-company tutor and MIP tutor. Students will also give a final presentation on their own Project Work. Grading is according to the Italian system.

Are Pre-Courses available?

All students undertaking the MBA will be sent online pre-courses to update their skills and knowledge prior to beginning the MBA. These courses need to be finished before course commencement; however, the students may follow them in their own time and at their own pace.

Will I be able to learn Italian?

Just living in Italy presents so many possibilities for learning Italian and each person’s progress will depend greatly on the effort they put in. MIP also offers students the encouragement and assistance needed to gain confidence in the language, providing Italian classes. Over the years, MIP has had many MBA students from all sorts of language backgrounds who have achieved excellence in the language.

Will I be able to attend an exchange program with another School?

Yes! We have a range of exchanges available and these vary in duration from 1 week to 3 months. There is also a dual degree program, where participants are awarded two qualifications from two institutions. In the shorter programs, students will undertake some electives during the exchange. Our partner schools come from the world over and we are constantly seeking out new agreements to offer our students a wide choice in terms of country, duration and the types of electives to study.
For an updated partner schools list – see the section International Partners.

Do I need a computer?

We recommend that each student has their own laptop for their own convenience. It is not an essential item at school since study areas are provided with PCs, however, students may be required to do homework on a laptop.

What type of degree/title will I obtain upon graduation?

Upon graduation, candidates obtain the First Level University Specializing Master from Politecnico di Milano which is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) and it is issued under the autonomous responsibility of Politecnico di Milano.

Candidates are advised to check with the relevant authorities in their home countries regarding the validity/recognition of this title in their home countries.

How much do pre-courses / Italian language courses cost?

There is absolutely no additional cost for either of these courses.

Will I have to buy didactic materials?

No, you will be provided with these by the MBA Program Office. There will also be no extra charge for books as the cost is covered in the fee.

Students have set tasks to complete and goals to fulfil, and the project is tailored to meet both the needs of the company and the student.
Project Work can be considered the first step into an MBA career as these positions may actually lead to a job offer in the host company at the completion of the project.
About 13% of project work experiences are held abroad, while 87% take place in Italy.

Payback: value for money. According to the Financial Times, European schools are on average better value for money than the rest of the world: the number of years it would take alumni to pay off their fees if they were to use all of their salary three years after graduation is on average 1.54 in Europe, with Italian alumni able to pay quickest (in 1.23 years) right after the Belgians.

The International MBA experience is in itself a great opportunity for personal and professional growth and Personal Development is a key program component. The Personal Development (PD) sequence runs throughout the MBA and is closely linked to the work of the Career Service. The activities carried out by PD support the academic component of the course through assisting students in acquiring the skills needed for applying the classroom-learnt conceptual models and to continue independently with their lifelong learning.

include the following:

  • Personal Development lectures
  • Public speaking workshops
  • 1-2-1 interviews and personalised feedback sessions
  • CV writing skills

Please make sure to convert your piece (Word or PowerPoint) into a PDF file to upload it on the application platform.

STEP 2: SCREENING OF CANDIDATURE

You will be informed whether you have been selected for the Motivational Interview and MIP Test by our admissions team in due time.

You may apply the following year with a new application.

Is there a minimum required GMAT/GRE score?

GMAT and GRE scores are not compulsory for admission to the program. However, they are recommended for scholarships consideration.

What is the MIP test?

The MIP test is MIP’s own admissions exam that must be taken compulsorily in addition to the motivational interview that candidates must sit. The MIP test is composed of business case analysis, logic-based test and data interpretation test. It is conducted online or on-campus depending on the availability of the candidate.

Which degrees do you accept?

“I spent 3 months in one of the top business schools in France: EM Lyon.
This long exchange gave me the opportunity to understand French culture, which I believe is very important for doing business in France. They have a wide variety of electives to choose from and there are a lot of exchange students from all over the world, so I felt very at home. The school is an hour’s drive from the Alps and I joined a skiing trip with the class that made us a little closer. I enjoyed all the facilities the school has to offer and expanded my network. I strongly recommend to any incoming students that they participate in one of these exchanges and take the opportunity to make their profile more international.” – JAYADEEP AKKIREDDY, INDIA – MBA 2012

The purpose of the trip is to expose students to the Silicon Valley ecosystem and deepen their understanding of entrepreneurship and other current hot topics through meetings with executives, company visits and cultural excursions. Students will visit start-ups and business accelerators (e.g. Plug & Play Tech Center), large corporations (e.g. IBM Almaden Research Center), venture capital firms, incubators and academic institution (e.g. Stanford Center for Professional Development) to gain a broader perspective on the process of taking an idea to the market and scaling a company. Whether you want to launch your own venture or add entrepreneurial thinking to your toolkit, the Silicon Valley Week in the MBA Program will give you completely new ways of thinking about entrepreneurship, networks and innovation.*

*The description refers to the 2016 edition of the study tour. Slight changes may occur for future editions.

We turn the future into a part of you.

We offer highly personalised services with the objective of developing the necessary skills, tools and strategy and expanding your professional network, to help you succeed in today’s complex and competitive global job market.

MILAN IS YOUR CAMPUS

Why do an MBA on a campus when you can have one of Europe’s most vibrant cities at your feet? To let you really get to know Milan and to get a 24-hours-a-day experience of your MBA, we will open up an ecosystem of opportunities to enable you to experience the city in all its facets. You will have partnerships with restaurants and recreational venues at your disposal, dedicated co-working spaces in key areas of Milan, a travel pass to allow you to move around the city, bike- and car-sharing agreements to get around as you wish, discounts on cultural and recreational events, partnerships with gyms and fitness areas, and much, much more!

Studying in Milan and at MIP Politecnico di Milano is a unique and rewarding experience. In addition to the study program, students participate in a wide range of exciting activities, events and experiences that enrich and enhance their own personal journey.

Living and studying in Milan offers a broad exposure to an international business community and opens up an array of opportunities thanks to its rich entrepreneurial network and the wide variety of sectors present in the territory. Home to 400 banks and major industrial companies, Milan is often described as the “Locomotive of Italy”; it is at the heart of a manufacturing system that generates 21% of Italy’s GDP and its strong economic base has made it one of Italy’s most influential cities.

Milan is also an international centre for the fashion industry and a world leader in design. Here the ingrained manufacturing tradition is flanked by a culture of progress and experimentation, enterprise and production. It is a cultural city at the forefront of modern Italy where the most important events, shows and exhibitions take place. Trade fairs are an important resource of the city which allow enterprises, particularly small and medium ones, to connect with international markets.

This city possesses an efficient infrastructure system and its well-developed road, rail and airport connections make it a major tourist destination in Europe.
Milan is known for being a dynamic city which, even after 2,000 years of history, is still evolving. And yet in this constant change, where new buildings are replacing the old ones, there is a balance between the rich historical heritage and modernity. And this is what makes Milan unique in Italy: a combination of both new and old.

What is the cost of living in Milan?

The cost of living is comparable to that of many other important European capitals. We recommend that students budget for around EUR 1.000 per month; however, these costs will vary depending on each person’s personal spending habits. Ask infomasters@mip.polimi.it for a breakdown of monthly living costs.

Where is MIP located in Milan?

MIP is located in the north-west of Milan at the Bovisa site, a brand new campus just 2 train stops from the centre of Milan. It is also well serviced by buses and trams.

Where can I stay during my studies?

MIP has a range of agreements with various residences around Milan, each with fast and easy access to the Bovisa campus, or we can assist you in finding short-term private accommodation. Visit the International Students Office page to find out more.

Exposure to a technological ecosystem such as that of the Politecnico di Milano, which ranges from industry 4.0 to the internet of things and self-driving vehicles, can become an added value for managers and entrepreneurs, also in terms of open innovation.

The selection process assesses the profile of the individual candidate while taking into account the composition of the class, which must be consistent with the quality and diversity the school requires. Acceptance is based on the ability to excel, not only academically, but also in the business community. You will be advised by e-mail of the final decision on your application.

What is the application date to apply for the program?

Please note that the admission process for the master is on a rolling basis, therefore the sooner you apply the more chances you will have of securing your place in the class, as capacity may be reached before the final application deadlines.
